What is platinum actually worth?
In practice, about 30p per hour of ordinary play — and we won't quote you a cash rate.
Platinum has no official exchange rate, and the real cost per platinum swings wildly depending on which discount coupon you happen to have. Publishing a single currency figure would look precise and be wrong, so we anchor on time instead: what an hour of play typically returns in sellable loot.
Why 30p/hour is our baseline
Every “farm it or buy it” verdict on this site compares the time cost of farming something against its platinum price. That comparison needs a rate, and there is no objectively correct one — it depends on your account, your gear and what you enjoy.
We use 30p/hour as a conservative figure for general play with incidental selling, and we state it wherever it is used so you can disagree with it and re-derive the verdict yourself. What we will not do is present the output of that assumption as though it were a measurement.
Where platinum comes from
- Prime parts. Relics you run anyway produce parts that sell. Check vault status first — vaulted parts are worth substantially more because nobody can farm them.
- Duplicate mods. Low individual value, high volume, no farming required.
- Ducats, indirectly. Prime parts can be converted to ducats for Baro Ki’Teer. Check the platinum value first — turning a 60p part into 15 ducats is a common and expensive mistake.
